Moments of Fame

Lazy Man has demonstrated that “lazy” is not what he is: he’s posted a HUGE Carnival of Personal Finance. This 150th edition, which includes Funny’s remarks on a student group’s plan to make PF a required college course, features so many interesting articles I hardly know where to begin. Many links to new-to-me sites, such as Trees Full of Money’s tips on how to save money on gas. Antishay Ventenne, whose pleasantly written site I only recently discovered, has a post on building not one, not, two, but a bunch of small side businesses to generate snowflakes. Harvesting Dollars goes beyond the emergency fund by developing a second budget to serve in case of personal or national financial disaster. In the land of the known, Be This Way has a little eye-opener in which she explains that you don’t have to let your mortgage company pay your insurance, and maybe you shouldn’t. This particular carnival has to be seen to be fully appreciated–highly recommended!

At Stop the Ride, the 61st Make It from Scratch Carnival is up. Did you know you can make your own dishwasher detergent? The recipe appears at Home Life Weekly. Funny’s squib on ashes as silver cleaner appears in this carnival. The carnival features a bunch of tempting recipes, including one for cream of green chili soup and one to turn matzoh into a chocolatized confection.

The Carnival of Money Stories is at Money Stories, where the tale of the Safeway coupon book appears. Here, Harvesting Dollars tells a story demonstrating the importance of adding an umbrella policy to your insurance coverage. Kyle at Amateur Asset Allocator expresses my feelings exactly when he explains why cable TV is a huge rip. Family and Finances describes a client who plays the grasshopper to the frugalist’s ant by frittering away a substantial inheritance. Don’t we all know someone like that?
