Money and Values has posted the 153rd Carnival of Personal Finance in a clever Q&A format. Funny’s question about whether a bachelor’s degree is worthwhile for most students appears in this carnival. Along those lines, at Can I Get Rich on a Salary asks what freshly minted MBA will allow its owner to earn, and how much she or he can expect to earn over time. Then Blunt Money argues that student loans are not good debt, a stance that, while it has something to recommend it, I would take with a grain of salt. And by way of minimizing the amount of debt racked up in student loans, Paula Wethington at Monroe on a Budget has some suggestions for keeping your scholarship resume up to date.
The Financial Blogger hosts the 126th Festival of Frugality with a creative “If I had a car” theme. Funny’s post on the miracle of penny-pinching appears among the 72 (!) entries in this festival. Among these, FB nominates Brip-Blap’s suggestion for a simple way to save money on food as the best of the lot. Prime Time Money entered an entertaining look at extreme savers, and Five Cent Nickel ruminates about the social acceptability of frugality.
The 60th Carnival of Money Stories appears at Carnival of Cash this week. Funny’s tale of saving $175 by (belatedly) disbelieving allegedly expert advice appears in this round-up. Two wild stories of weird “job offers,” one from Free Money Finance and the other from Word of Mouth Marketing, will leave you shaking your head in amazement. My Two Dollars says he and his wife expect to save money by moving to Taos (!), leaving some of us wondering if they live in Tokyo now. For sure, if I could afford to live there, that’s where I’d be writing this blog! Be This Way provides a cool story on how she got a four-year-degree with no student loans with a strategy that most students would be well advised to consider.
The Make It From Scratch Carnival appears at Surely You Nest; it includes Funny’s recipe for walnut-sage pasta sauce. This carnival offers a bunch of delicious recipes and a series of interesting do-it-yourself and gardening tips. Eco ‘Burban has an entertaining story of discovering cream in glass jars (if only! Trader’s used to carry it in glass, but no more!). Plus ça change…which is another way of saying there’s nothing new under the sun. At Home School Blogger, Aussie in America explains how to make your own NON-petroleum jelly, a pretty neat idea.
