Good Financial Cents has posted this week’s Festival of Frugality with a photo-enhanced “broken hearts” theme. He says he compiled the entire HUGE thing in one evening: quite an accomplishment! Many, many interesting posts here. Check out Frugal Babe’s well written and thoughtful reflection on building financial goals so as to make it possible to withstand the various unexpected financial blows life brings. At How I Save Money, LuLuGal makes some tongue-in-cheek observations about “frugal frauds.” Check out Myscha Theriault’s great set of ideas for frugal fitness at WiseBread. Funny was pleased to see the post on stocking up on food and household goods in anticipation of future inflation made it into this line-up.
The Make It from Scratch Carnival appears at 11th Heaven’s Homemaking Haven, where Funny’s off-the-cuff sweet potato & carrot soup appears among a much more distinguished company. Myscha scores again with one of those “I shoulda thought of that” ideas–very smart. I’ll be using the new freezer to put up a store of DIY bread mixes. If you love onions, check out the recipe for pissalidière at Momelo’s blog…yum! This carnival has a bunch of tasty bread recipes, most of which probably can be adapted to the bread-mix scheme. Moving on to other DIY projects, Hawai’i WAHM shows how to make your own gift bags, a pretty and pretty thrifty idea. Off the Urban Grid brings up a topic that’s been floating around these parts the past few weeks: how to keep bees in your backyard. Brianne’s Blog advises on how to use eggs to condition your hair.
And the Carnival of Personal Development has gone up at Momentor; Funny’s wonderment over the opportunity to collect unemployment compensation while still working for the Great Desert University appears in the Personal Finance section. Up in the Personal Development section, a piece by Jim O’Donnell written as a guest post at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity asks “Do You Love What You Do” (or even like it)? The story is about lots more than job satisfaction, BTW. And FIRE Finance asks a sixty-four-dollar question: What if your mutual fund goes belly-up?
The Money Hacks Carnival has gone live at One Million Bucks, hosted by Patrick Bateman. Funny’s reflection on the efficacy of no-buy days appears in this round-up. Papa Boomer gets his identity ripped off and lives to tell the tale, thanks to Capital One. Middle-class Abigail and Tim visit friends in Tacoma and suddenly find themselves in poverty’s Never-Neverland. BTW, this lady can write—she tells a helluva story; check out the rest of her blog.
