Moments of Fame

This week Funny appears in several carnivals and festivals. Videlicet:

Make It from Scratch
Mary at Simply Forties does the honors this week, with a beautiful springtime theme. Take a look at the lovely photos while you’re checking out the posts. Recession Depression Therapy offers an easy step-by-step guide to making your own bread. And hey! Lookit Homesteaderbelle’s recipe for pecan tarts: easy, and do you know how much these things cost at the local gourmet emporium? They’re so delicious: I’ll be trying this at the earliest possible moment. My Tiny Kingdom has produced a tour-de-force in describing…well, you’ve got to read it! Funny’s much more humdrum gardening post appears in this round-up—thanks, Mary, for the good words!

Festival of Frugality
Funny made Ask Mr. Credit Card‘s Editor’s Pick with the piece on micro-budgeting! Fun theme this week: frugal famous people. In this round-up, Dollar Frugal gets so frustrated with the quality of the junky furniture on the market these days, she seriously considers learning upholstery so she can update older, quality-built pieces. Everyday Finance posts on ways to get the lowest mortgage rates. And Savings Not Shoes wonders if frugality has made her fat.

Money Hacks Carnival
Greener Pastures hosts this week, with a hilarious “duct tape” theme. What is it about this product that is so temptingly funny? Every time I see the stuff, I think of the Red Green Show, where duct tape is, ridiculously, “the home handyman’s secret weapon.” Funny’s post on the lowered cost of CORA appears here. If you’re curious about the talk of dethroning the dollar from its position as de facto world currency, you’ll find a wealth of information at Bankling, who brings together links to a rich variety of facts and opinions on the subject. Speaking of financial conundrums, Mighty Bargain Hunter explains what is meant by marginal tax brackets; for those of us who are innumerate, this infuriating system makes it impossible to guess at what our income taxes will be, leaving us unable to estimate, as we contemplate future unemployment, how much will be available to spend in various scenarios. Free From broke has a nice post that generates a lot of comment: “No Job Is Below You.” Domestic Cents rhapsodizes about the joy (and benefits) of grilling outdoors. This is a vast carnival with more excellent posts than anyone can mention in a brief overview—be sure to go there and browse for a while.

Carnival of Personal Finance
ABCs of Investing also chooses a springtime theme for this huge roundup, where Funny’s tale of sidekick Tina’s brief reprieve in the layoff bloodletting appears. At Growing Money, Smarty Sean has a really good article discussing the realities of owning rental property. Steve Schoenly holds forth on the pernicious effect of private schools on American education, a vicious circle if ever there was one. And the Happy Rock reports that the penny is being retired…say goodbye to those $19.99 prices meant to suggest the price isn’t really twenty bucks. :-D
