@ Susan: Good idea about doing an online search: will check it out. Many dog walks. Daily boozie-poo’s. Dog is getting well exercised…she now wishes to run, not walk. Human is getting well exercised, too!

There is and always has been a reason you call him “Ex.” If he were a great, thoughtful, and well meaning guy – he wouldn’t be your ex.

Have you tried getting a pack of passes (if they are offered) online? It might save you some time and trouble to get a bunch at once.

Have a swim, a hike, a dog walk, and a glass of wine. You will feel better.

@ quietrunning: I’ll need to look into GDU’s passes again. From what I could tell from their online site, I’d end up paying for more rides than I’d use between now and the December 30 layoff date. They assume you’ll be traipsing to campus five days a week, and I don’t. Between the furloughs and the occasional telecommute day, my frequency is more like three or four times a week. A holiday can cut it to two days; and I have 135 hours of use-it-or-lose-it vacation time to take between now and the end of the year, with four hours more piling up at every payday. I think it’s cheaper to pay the senior-citizen fare on a day-by-day basis. The trains come about once every ten minutes, so even if you miss one while you’re dorking with the machine, there’s not much of a wait.

@ Neal: Alas, I can’t afford to pay $300/hour legal fees when the ex- will deliver the information for free. The issue is not in the past, it’s in the present: he does influence my son’s thinking. When he passes an utter misapprehension along to my son, that presents a reason to care about his opinion.

About the train…perhaps for now, get a pass from GDU since they pay half the cost and you know how long you will be there. My problem with daily tickets is that the train usually comes when I am getting the thing and leaves while it is printing. So, I end up waiting for the next train. Passes are a breeze.

ps: My ex-mister left (28 years ago) the day after his graduation, with another gal, after I worked to put him through college. I was stunned. They only lasted a year but I was single for decades.

Sucky day sounds like. I get so annoyed with the MMLS (male memory-limitation syndrome) where they just forget the sacrifices women make.

Like: you suppported the family at a crap job while I sat stunned as my ego disintegrated and couldn’t function? I forget. Oh, you wrote the proposal for me, got me funded, and now you want me to review your proposal for 20 minutes? Sorry, don’t have time, I forget.

As I work on some man’s proposal today, this was a timely reminder to build the reward into the proposal (he won’t review the budget, he’s too busy) in the form of an RA for me. Then he can forget all he wants…oops, I am doing some
co-ranting. Sorry, this is just to say, I hear you sister.

As a side note about prestige, I have always loved the Harvard University union slogan: “You can’t eat prestige.”

Join the rest of the world. You can’t change the past. We all have things in our past that we aren’t proud of, it’s called learning. You CAN control how you react to the memories by calling them lessons, learn from them & (most important) forgiving yourself.

As for the ex. Who CARES what his opinion is? You smartened up & moved on. For all intents and purposes he is out of your life. Consider his smart remark as payment for the legal advice. If it’s too high a price, next time, get the answers another way.

Feels good to vent, doesn’t it?
