Moments of Fame

Speaking of carnivals, it’s time to tip a hat to the carnivals and festivals that have kindly featured Funny’s posts this week.

Over at Weakonomics, Phil hosts the Carnival of Personal Finance with a fun and often funny birthday theme. Here’s an interesting article from Invest Wisdom that defines the P/E ratio; the language is easy to understand and illustrated with a real-life example. A thoughtful conversation is happening at Art of the Coupon over the question of why it seems so much harder to get by in America than it used to. Moving on to more immediate questions, check out Len Penzo’s cost comparison between charcoal and gas grills! (Sorry, Len: I still think charcoal makes better-tasting chow…) I like this article from Dough Roller, trouble-shooting budgets—makes a bunch of good points. If you’re contemplating an excursion into the landlord game, better check out Growing Money’s eye-popping saga about a tenant from Hell. And speaking of real estate, Funny’s recent Zillow perusal, which seems to contradict reports that say Phoenix area real estate values have dropped 50%, appears in this week’s carnival.

Over at Purpose•Power•Coaching, the Carnival of Personal Development leads, not surprisingly, with a post on Susan Boyle from Health Money Success. Five Cent Nickel offers some good ideas on how to deal with a power outage without having to run out and rent a generator. Funny’s post on handling the emotional roller-coaster that accompanies a layoff appears here.

The Make It from Scratch Carnival is at Homestead Bloggers Lighter Side. I’ve Got a Little Space to Fill reminds me of a yummy little treat I used to make when I was a young mother: English muffin pizzas. Check out this unusual and interesting recipe for rosemary pecan raisin crisps, from Tightwad. Here’s a pretty decadent-sounding goat-cheese salad from Mission: Food…yum! Funny’s recipe for utterly deadly pecan pie appears here, and our hostess even includes a photo to liven things up. This round-up includes many excellent posts—go there!
