Moments of Fame

This week Money under 30 hosted the Carnival of Personal Finance. I really like Under 30’s minimalist, clean layout: easy to read and quick to find interesting posts. Happily, Funny’s rumination about the jump in the stock market on the day GM declared bankruptcy appears here, right next to my favorite opposite-point-of-view site, Tough Money Love, who looks askance at “Obama Motors.”   My Dollar Plan reports on a cash-back credit card sponsored by Fidelity, interesting if you’re in the habit of charging and then paying off your card in full every month. And Wise Money Matters has produced a tour de force that made editor’s pick: Comparing Cellphone Carriers. These are just a few of the interesting posts at Monday’s edition of the COPF—be sure to go there and check out some more.

Money Energy, a new-to-me site, hosts the fifth edition of the Carnival of Money Stories (New Series).  OMG…don’t miss Money Energy’s top editor’s pick, Wiser Miser’s funny and scary “From Frugal to Cheap: The Time I Got a Walmart Haircut.” {Gasp!!!}  Over at Bargaineering, Jim has another videocast, this one demonstrating an excellent idea. Speaking of {gasp!}, did you realize we now can get 50- and 60-year mortgages? Darwin’s finance discusses their pro’s and cons. Funny’s theorizing on serial bankrupts made this week’s CoMS.

And the salade à la d’Argenson recipe appeared at the beloved Make It from Scratch Carnival, hosted (with a giveaway!) this week by Gotta Little Space to Fill. Here’s one I’ve absolutely gotta try: hand-made ricotta cheese, explained by Frills in the Hills! It looks delicious, and awesomely frugal. Recycle Cindy keeps coming up with amazing ideas: check out the wonderful trivet hotpad crocheted from recycled T-shirt fabric. Got li’l kids? They’d love Clemencia’s fingerpaint recipe, posted at Storytime and More. And speaking of painting, look at this interesting fabric art project at Mixed Media Artist…wouldn’t this make a cool T-shirt, or unusual squares for quilting! Many interesting recipes this week, including an intriguing no-knead bread from It’s Frugal Being Green. As usual, this carnival has more worthy posts than you can possibly give a nod to; go there for many truly wonderful how-to’s and recipes.
