While not a business owner at present, I am working toward this long-term goal. This article was a reminder that the best opportunities are those that make life a little easier for customers - and ones that don't just help the business owner meet their goals, but that really serve to benefit the public as well. Sounds like Lockwood really educates the public with his show and is driven to keep folks out of the garages where they'd likely experience a problem, instead getting them to low-no risk shops. Nice going! Interesting article.

I just want to say as Cary's youngest brother that his determination and well deserved success were always a huge inspiration to me. Even though I've moved permanently away from Arizona to Sydney, Australia, that hard work that I witnessed over the years in my older brother have fueled my drive in life, too. Cary and I are in very different fields (I work in software sales for a multi-national IT company), but I always thought we had a kindred spirit in our desire for hard earned success.

Cary has never been one to rest on his laurels, either, and I find that refreshing in an age of sniveling mediocrity that has recently been elevated to the position of President of the United States. I admire my brother's courage, his principles and above all else his joyous pursuit of his own values.

Another thought--as I was reading the article, I was reminded of the success of the nonprofit Andrea's Closet. The organization's story--from the hospital tragedy to a toy store, and with lots of community and corporate support--is all about creating something from the heart. Whether the topic is children with cancer or automotives, the best stories are those that feature people who were, yes, enthusiastic, but also passionate about their enterprise/cause. And what makes the story even better? The element of doing something not just for personal gain (profit), but for the greater good. I love that Your Auto Network also partners with the Salvation Army.

@ kjg: Thanks. I hope this works, and actually develops into something readers will enjoy. When I reached Mr. Lockwood on the phone, I was just charmed and realized that many entrepreneurs like him can speak enthusiastically (or...who knows? maybe not so enthusiastically?) about what they're doing, so that over time those of us who would like to break free might learn from them to frame some ideas that will work for us.

Fantastic. Thanks for the introduction to this most helpful service. Selecting from the telephone directory and crossing my fingers doesn't work--at all. I'll feel much more confident with my car service selection the next time I need it!
