Moments of Fame

At last! Funny has made the Big Time! Frank Curmudgeon included Funny’s report on the $64 butternut squash in The Frugal Friday Special Sunday Edition, over at Bad Money Advice. Frank’s round-up is a hilarious post, proof positive that PF bloggers DO have a sense of humor.

Elsewhere, Funny made editor’s choice with the rumination on the investment value of real estate at Almost Frugal’s Carnival of Personal Finance. As usual, this week’s CoPF is a huge production with a wide variety of excellent posts. Among the many I enjoyed:

Henry Stern at InsureBlog reports on medical tourism coverage. Who’d've thunk it? The insurance industry, having helped mightily in jacking US health care costs out of many Americans’ reach, now offers coverage to people forced to leave the country to get affordable surgery and dental care. Maybe we can push up the cost of hospital care in Vietnam through the stratosphere, too!

PT Money contemplates the relative merits of renting a vehicle for a road trip vs. driving your own. An interesting and entertaining exercise… Our neighbors used to rent for every trip they made—and they often would junket up to Vegas. I always wondered how they justified that strategy.

At Debt-Free Adventure, Matt Jabbs describes 20 ways he and his wife have cut their grocery bills from $400 to less than $250 a month.

It’s Frugal Being Green kindly includes Funny’s tongue-in-cheek squib about the DIY air conditioner in this week’s Festival of Frugality.

Not the Jet Set offers up an amazing story of rescuing a load of laundry from a purple crayon.

Suburban Dollar takes a skeptical look at the current fad for raising chickens in the backyard, an enthusiasm that has got to rank right up there with the $64 butternut squash.

What If No One’s Watching has a fun post with a lot of good reader comments about what’s worth spending extra money and what’s not. Interesting and entertaining!
