Moments of Fame

Good grief! I’ve let these acknowledgments slip way too long.  Funny did pretty well in the moments of fame department this week!

At the Best of Money Carnival, third place with Seven Painless Ways to Save! Just getting into this carnival is an honor. Only ten entries are selected, and each of the ten is highly readable. The blue ribbon went to Fire Finance’s very interesting article on what the unemployment rate actually means.

And Funny got an Editor’s Pick with When Giving Goes Awry at the Carnival of Personal Finance (!!), hosted this week at Suburban Dollar. Check out the fun theme at this edition, BTW. Speaking of fun, if you’re losing hope that personal finance will ever be funny again, visit Len Penzo’s site for a rumination on what one would be willing to do for a million bucks.

Mrs. Accountability hosted the Festival of Frugality on December 1st, where Funny’s report on the new budgeting scheme was included. Mrs. Money at the Ultimate Money Blog contributed a nice discussion of one of my favorites, the oil cleansing method.

Mama Bear kindly included Sons (with its recipe for M’hijito’s incredible broiled steak mirepoix) at the Make It from Scratch Carnival. While you’re there, check out this wonderful and unusual pasta with winter squash and leek, contributed by Kristia at Family Balance Sheet.

Not part of the Make It from Scratch Carnival but very interesting indeed, see Mama Bear’s recipe for Crock Pot Potato Chowder, which went up yesterday. It looks perfect for the Christmas Eve choir potluck, when people try to outdo themselves with their specialties while we spend the hour or two between the 8:00 p.m. service and the midnight mass. I have a stack of paper bowls that came with a package of paper plates from Costco, which will nicely accommodate servings of this stuff. Mwa-ha-ha!
