Moments of Fame

Money Relationship hosts the Carnival of Money Stories this week. Funny’s rumination on the cost of commuting appears here.  Quite a few of this week’s entries are very good. Check these out:

Free Money Finance posts another chapter in the Comquest saga. Good grief! It reminds me of the monster runaround I got when Qwest did its best to rip me off.

Here’s an entertaining rumination from The Sun’s Financial Diary, generated by considering certain current financial industry practices from the “do unto others” point of view.

PT Money posts a very interesting story about a couple who jumped off the gerbil wheel into early retirement with only $170,000 in savings.

The Carnival of Personal Finance appears this week at My Dollar Plan, who kindly included Funny’s rant on proprietary colleges and universities.  As usual, this is a huge carnival, and I don’t envy the host for having to choose editor’s picks from so many submissions. Here are a few you might especially enjoy:

Balance Junkie has an excellent article on how to budget if you have an irregular income, something more and more of us can look forward to in the future as people who have been laid off have to find ways to make a living as “outsourced” personnel.

The Financial Blogger, who not so long ago purchased  Gather Little by Little, just sold it. Price is undisclosed, but apparently the proceeds will underwrite another enterprise he has under way.  Also within living  memory  he purchased Green Panda. I find this discussion intriguing. TFB includes five links to posts on the subject of buying blogs, worth reading for those who are interested in blogging for cash.

Revanche’s reflection on her first month on the job after a stretch of unemployment is a nice read at A Gai Shan Life. Lots of challenge moving to a new city, starting a new job, and taking on greater managerial responsibilities than the previous job offered.

And one last, amazing thing. As far as I know, this didn’t surface in any of this week’s carnivals, or if it did, I didn’t spot it. I came across it at Bargaineering, where Jim has a post that’s great on its own. You have got to read this! Don’t miss it.

Thanks very much for the mention. You were right about the credit card concierge service. That’s amazing! I wonder if we have anything like that in Canada. Who says customer service is going extinct?
