@ Perthro: Excellent reason not to shop at Walmart! :-D

Seriously, I make it a practice not to shop in stores that don't allow returns. It's another form of customer disservice.

Remember that some stores track returns, with or without a receipt and only allow three or so returns a year. Any more than that and they flag you, or ban you from returns until that period is up. Wal-mart here only allows three returns a year unless it's a recalled item (but that might vary from state to state), and has you sign off on each one.

I agree Donna and Funny! There is something liberating about knowing that you can "make" it. My parents taught me well and I cannot count the times I have been so very grateful to them for their practical way of living. We always had what we needed. Times of less were easier to get through because they saved and planned well. I see my efforts in passing on this legacy in my adult children. My two sons have embraced it more than my daughter! Wow. : )

Making do or doing without can be kind of fun, actually. Or maybe that's just what we tell ourselves so we keep doing it...?
Seriously: It's kind of freeing to know how well you can get along on practically nothing -- because if you NEEDED to do it again, you'd know you could.

Another suggestion would be to save discretionary purchases--like all your clothes--to the end of the month. Whatever you want is probably still there.
