Undisable cookies in Firefox?

Does anybody know how to get to the cookies thing in Firefox 3.6.8? Somehow all cookies have been disabled on the laptop, and so it won’t let me sign into gmail, and so I can’t get my gmail, and I can’t comment on any Blogger sites.

Tools doesn’t seem to have the option. Here’s what I get on my Tools menu:

In Firefox Tools, I get Web Search, Downloads, Add-ons, Error Console, and Page Info. Stop Private Browsing and Clear Recent History are disabled.

In Edit, no relevant options. In View > Toolbars, no way to get anything up that looks like it might be useful.

I think what’s  happened here is that I installed Taco 3.0 with Abine, a souped-up privacy program that sounded like a great idea but evidently is some sort of rogue software. You can uninstall the Taco 3.0 part, but Abine gets its tentacles into the guts of your system and won’t let go. From Google searches I see I’m not the only one with this problem and also that apparently uninstalling FireFox and reinstalling it doesn’t help. Being tired & at the end of my rope, I haven’t tried that.

Has anybody had any experience with this? I’m over in Safari now but much prefer FF for navigation and general security. But now can’t make comments on Blogger sites like Frugal Scholar because I can’t get into Gmail on FF.

I believe once you disable, you just need to go through all the sites you normally go to and re-enter your password and click on “remember”.

The problem is, the tools to disable cookies are gone. Apparently Abine reconfigures FireFox.

At this point, Firefox is now responding to a link with BlackBoard by shutting down instantly. The only way I can get into BlackBoard, which is still limping, is by accessing it through Safari.

It looks like what I’m going to have to do is uninstall Firefox. But evidently you have to clear everything related to FF out of the guts of the Mac; otherwise, when you reload it the stuff that was saved by Abine comes right back. You can’t get rid of Abine by simply running “uninstall” on Firefox.

Oh, how I miss your comments–plus, I was inspired by your recent dieting posts. Good luck! I make my son fix this stuff. I am impressed that you even know what the problem is.

Well, MacRepair Dude expunged Firefox with Abine out of the laptop and reloaded FF. It didn’t take up the saved bookmarks well, though, so now I’ll have to rebuild those. Anyway, at least it’s letting me back into g-mail! :-/

I started with a Mac. My power PC cost as much as a used car in ’95.
We went AMD PC in 2000 and started dinking with Linux in 2005.

So I’m no help, but glad you got it fixed.

Odd that my Linux PC will see everything on our home network but the XP machines just say Phhhhhtttt and never find the Linux box..

You can always do a system restore to a date prior to installing the Albine program. I recently had to do this to get rid of a MacFee program.

It seems “options” was removed from your Tools. I found this, maybe it will help?

It’s simple to remove PrivacySuite:

If you are using FIREFOX: Go to “Tools,” “Add-ons,” select “Abine (or TACO with Abine)” from the Extensions list and click either “Disable” or “Uninstall.” ALSO, please make sure that you DO NOT SAVE TABS WHEN YOU RESTART. Start fresh after uninstalling.
