Tom returned from his vacation trip just in time to post this week’s Canadian Finance Carnival, where he kindly includes Funny’s grump about gasoline and navel-gazing about buying a new car. It’s hardly worth visiting a blog carnival unless you enjoy reading blogs; this week the Canadians highlight quite a few posts that make the trip worthwhile. Here are a few of my faves:
Over at The Financial Blogger, Mike has some big ideas for his online business empire. He outlines a back-of-the-envelope businehttp://funny-about-money.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=18336&action=edit&message=10ss plan…wow! All our enterprises should run so well.
The Canadians, as evidenced by Big Cajun Man’s post at THE Canadian Personal Finance Blog, regard the U.S.’s political and financial misadventures with bemused astonishment.
Speaking of those Canadians, dang! Take a look at this amazing service their post office offers, reported by Boomer and Echo. Can you imagine the U.S. Postal Service deliberately offering a way to save you money on stamps? Of course, you’d probably buy Canadian stamps just to get the Royal wedding pictures. Hm. What with Sarah Palin moving to town, I’m thinking it’s time to get out of Dodge…wonder if Canada has room for one more little old lady?
Outlaw Finance hosts the Totally Money Carnival, where Funny’s squib on the frugal vs. the chintzy appears. Outlaw prefaces this huge production with a great “Question of the Day” to think about. As one might expect from such a large gathering of bloggers, quite a few very nice posts appear here. Check out these…
At One Money Design, Jason Price recounts suffering through a day of worry after he misplaced his iPhone and then provides a five excellent strategies for protecting sensitive data on mobile devices.
And at Darwin’s Finance, Darwin posts a really great idea for how to get a snowblower (or just about any other piece of pricey household equipment) for a third off the retail price. Now if I could just find a way to apply this idea to the proposed new car….
Jim Yih’s blog, Retire Happy, was recently nominated for Best Canadian Personal Finance Blog. Writing at Canadian Finance Blog, Jim considers what features make a great PF blog, along the way dropping links like candy for children.
And new father Carlos holds forth on The Writer’s Coin about how having a baby has actually made him more, not less, productive.
The Carnival of Personal Finance is up at My Personal Finance Journey, where Anita’s guest post on dealing with workplace bullies was included.
MPFJ’s top editor’s pick this week is Ashley’s nicely thought-out Argument for Privatizing Social Security and Money Talks.
Adam at Rabbit Funds posts a very entertaining piece suggesting that Dave Ramsey’s position on the MBA is all wet.
And Mighty Bargain Hunter has a very interesting story on his five-year-long experience with Prosper, a point-to-point lending operation. I’ve always been intrigued with the whole idea of P2P lending, and so was delighted to find an objective report on real-life results.
And finally, Funny made the Festival of Frugality, also hosted this week by My Personal Finance Journey (!), with the post on the expensive $hingles $hot. Check out My PF Journey’s “interesting graduation statistics” theme.
At Yes, I Am Cheap, Sandy reports the amazing story of the $2 million lottery winner who continues to collect food stamps. When we say “feeling of entitlement,” we’re not kidding…
Money Thinker offers five tips to make sure you never pay full price. If they seem fairly obvious, bear in mind that taken together they can add up to some significant savings over time.
Evan has been indulging in the always entertaining diversion of calculating microgoals. He’s done the math, and it’s pretty tantalizing.

Thanks for the mention and Congrats on the fame!
Thanks for the mention, it’s a good thing Canada Post offers e-services because they are set to go on strike as early as tomorrow!
Plenty of room up here, move on in! We’d love to have you, and thanks for the mention as well!
