Want to Run a Home Business? Here are 4 Personality Traits that can Help You Succeed

Hey, everybody! Miranda Marquit, one of my fave freelance writers, has a new blog. It covers several interesting themes, and today she shares a guest post on one of them.

Running a home business—setting your own hours and getting dressed only when you have to—appeals to many. However, a home business isn’t all laptops on the couch. A successful home business requires time and effort. Not everyone succeeds at owning a home business. Before you decide to quit your day job, consider whether or not you have these four traits that can help you succeed as a home business owner:

1. Self-Motivation

The most essential trait a home business owner needs is self-motivation. No one is going to “make” you do what you’re supposed to do to earn money. You have to be able to get yourself going, and you have to keep yourself going, even when you don’t feel like. The ability to motivate yourself is vital for a successful home business.

2. Flexibility

It helps to be able to adapt to different situations when you own a home business. You might need to be able to take care of different “jobs” when first starting out in your home business, from marketing to bookkeeping, on top of the original purpose of your business. Flexibility in terms of time is also important, since you might need to adapt to your schedule to your clients and to business needs.

3. Belief in Yourself

Confidence in your abilities is an important trait. Know what you can accomplish, and reach for your dreams. While you need to be realistic about the progress of your business, and understand that there will be drawbacks, self-belief can help you keep going. Confidence in your abilities will help you try something else if you fail at first, and it will keep you motivated.

4. Determination

Finally, an ability to stick with your plan to own a home business can help you succeed. Many businesses take time and effort to build; you probably won’t find success over night. If you have the determination to continue, even when it becomes difficult, you will be more likely to overcome your challenges. Determination can also inspire to change your business plan as needed.

Before starting your home business, consider whether or not you have some of the personality traits to succeed.

Absolutely!
We started our business in 1998 and yes if you are not motivated, dedicated, honest and can’t deliver, you will fail.

We design and host websites, do custom databases and programing and have a support contract with a local ISP.

As a contractor I set my goals above what my clients expect.

Always a bakers dozen.
