Those of you who have been around FaM for awhile know that Donna Freedman is one of my favorite Internet journalists, and has been for a long time. A 30-year veteran of the media, the woman is all over the place, writing for MSN Money and Get Rich Slowly and her own site and you name it… I first discovered her at Smart Spending , where she blithely wrote rings around any online writer I know, and most of the print types, too.
Well, brace yourself: Donna is offering a whole course, online, in how to write a blog that will call in readers and keep them with you. She’s calling it, aptly enough, “Write a Blog People Will Read.”
The other day she sent me a brief sample of the thing. It’s an avatar of clarity — sharp, easy to understand, and crisply organized. She explains why “writing” is not “content,” how to structure a good post (and even introduces a term I haven’t heard in a while: “nut graf”), where to find and how to develop reader-pleasing ideas, how to edit your own copy…and she throws in bouquets of off-the-cuff tips, too.
If you’ve thought about blogging but didn’t know where to start, Donna’s new course is just the ticket to jump-start your inspiration. If you already have a site or two, it’s a straight-to-the point brush-up that could benefit you as much as it can help any newbie. Alternatively, she’s also offering coaching sessions — send her three posts for a constructive critique and get to talk with her over the phone about your project!
Among Donna’s target audiences are companies that need to start or improve their websites. She proposes to coach corporate teams in blog development, at a discount. These days just about every business, no matter how local, needs an online presence as part of the marketing plan. While there’s money to be made in blogging, there’s a lot more to be made in effectively marketing your services or products.
Whatever your communication need, whether it’s just to find an audience for your personal writing or to build a business, “Write a Blog People Will Read” looks like a real gem.
Check it out!
Disclaimer: Though Donna and I know each other, no money or other blandishment has changed hands. This is a real, true, sincere endorsement. 🙂
Thanks for the shout-out, ma’am.
