Or sites… SDXB send over a few of his pictures, taken during yesterday’s wanderings.
Team ropers in action…
This horse looks a lot like my beloved mare Babe, who herself was a cattle horse. The things an animal like this can do defy belief. That rider shortly threw his lasso around the rear feet of a fast-moving calf.
Think you could stay aboard this critter?
Peace & quiet…
One nice thing about coming to rest in the middle of the desert: you don’t have to spend eternity working at pushing up grass, ’cause there ain’t no grass.
Here’s Roger, the rustic carpenter.
We didn’t get a good picture of his table, which is shown in part here, overexposed. The top of that thing is amazing.
Representatives of SDXB’s harem…

It truly is amazing at these horses’ abilities. To see it in real time is stunning to me anyway. And let us not forget these horses are carrying some pretty good size “boyz” who don’t look like they missed any meals lately. I have never had the pleasure of riding a roping horse but in my younger days did get to ride a nice mare that was a “cutting horse”. True story she was “working a steer” with me on board….and let’s just say she zigged and I zagged….and it happened so fast ….I….”disengaged” and actually landed on my feet. And she continued working the steer like nothing happened. BUT that is pretty country….As for your one eyed carpenter….I swear I have his “twin” right here at the “store that has toys for big boys”…..Home Depot. I call him “one eyed George”….The sad thing is George was apparently cutting wood at HD and saw dust got in his eye….it became irritated…itched….became infected and got so bad he lost sight in that eye. He had to fight them to keep the eye as they wanted to remove it….To which he replied…”No thank you”….TRUE STORY. I’ll see if I can get George to sit still for a pic. The resemblance is uncanny…..As for the harem….good luck to SDXB….one gal is plenty for me….
That’s amazing that you landed on your feet.
I had no idea about Babe until the first time she made a right turn at a full canter. Yipes! Fortunately, I managed to keep my seat, but probably through no fault of my own…
Sorry about poor ole George…working with your hands entails a surprising amount of risk. Always. wear. goggles….
LOL! SDXB is famed near and far as “the man who cannot get rid of a wife or a girlfriend.” 😀 NG is a very special one, though: she’s the best of the lot, by a wide length.
It is a shame about “one-eyed George”. I can’t tell you how much “crud” has gotten blown into my eyes from a saw….I guess….it’s the “luck of the draw”. As for the “dismount”….it WAS amazing that I landed on my feet. I even had chaps on but she was just too quick. Funny story about “Gypsy”(her name)…..We were gathering steers back in the day for the vet to castrate. These guys weighed about 2-300 pounds and a couple of able “cowboys” could handle a steer. But there was one full grown cow that got out of the pen. Sooo it was decided a different approach was needed, a more “mature cowboy” would rope the cow off of Gypsy and bring him to the Vet. Well the cowboy managed to get the rope around the cows head…..the mare then started backing up taking up the slack….then the cow eased up and then leaned into the rope and took off at the same time. This action snapped the saddle’s girth and off came the cowboy riding the saddle like a sled with the rope around the horn down thru the orchard. We jumped on the rope and managed to get the rope off the saddle and ran it around an apple tree a couple of times to hold him. It took six of us to get him off his feet so as the Vet could castrate him. That mare was right there the whole time reins a dangling….Good times…..
HOLY mackerel! That’s a great story!
“The money s in the book….” LOL.
