Coffee heat rising

Hotter Than the Hubs…and Stickier!

Yeah: it’s not only Arizona-level HOT outside, the air is soggy and icky.

I’ll tellya: this is one of those days when I am rampantly thankful that I’m NOT a yard worker. Just walking around the block in tow behind the dog is gawdawful! Having to actually get out in this heat and humidity and…WORK?! It beggars the imagination.

Honestly, I do NOT understand how those guys do it. Granted, they’re accustomed to the job and its miseries. But still…it is monstrously hot out there, and wet as the inside of a shower stall. No kidding: at 5:00 in the afternoon, when the temp should be easing off a bit, it’s 105 degrees in the shade of the back porch.

Still without a car… Meaning that tomorrow morning I’ll have to jump out of the sack in time to walk to the nearest grocery store and get there when they open: 6:00 a.m.  Goodie!

Oh, well: at least that means the shopping will be done by around 7:00 a.m. So I can loaf the rest of the day….

Speaking of can and can’t loaf…how glad ARE you that you’re not a cleaning lady?

Dear Gawd! The beloved Wonder-Cleaning Lady was here this afternoon. How DOES that woman do what she does?????

Seriously: even with the AC blasting away, the house is hot. She’s overheated from driving and walking through the gawdawful outside heat. And when she gets here, what does she do? She works like a freakin’ HORSE half the day.

This, after spending the first half of the day working like a horse at someone else’s house. What an extraordinary woman she is!

I’d be stressed trying to do the amount of physical work she does during cooler seasons. But when it’s hotter than the Hubs of Hades, I cannot even begin to imagine how that lady does her job!

***

Y’know, on the one hand, I feel like I’m exploiting her. Seriously: anyone who could earn a living doing something else WOULD earn their living doing something else.

But on the other, I’m…

…radically thankful that this splendid, thorough, intelligent woman beats herself up cleaning my house for me…
…more than happy to pay her whatever she asks (and probably would cheerfully pay her more!)…
…amazed at what a marvelous job she does…every time she comes here…

She really is a wonderful woman and a wonderful employee. What amazing luck (on my part) to have come across her!

And the truth is…at my ever-advancing age, there’s no way I could clean this whole house in one day. I’d have to break the job up into a chore a day:

Monday: Clean the bathrooms and kitchen
Tuesday: Change and wash the sheets
Wednesday: Do the rest of the laundry & ironing
Thursday: Vacuum and mop the floors
Friday:  …And so on, ad nauseam!

It would mean I would never have a day without housecleaning tasks (and yes, I do hate cleaning house!!!). And because I hate cleaning house, I would never do as good a job as Wonder-Cleaning Lady does.

Well. All I can say about it is thank the heavens for people who are willing to hire out to do maintenance and cleaning tasks. Bless’em all!
